Raw Earth Paper Series

Raw Earth Paper is a continuing series of small abstract paintings by Dutch artist Sander Hupkes, created on handmade paper from the historic paper mill De Middelste Molen near Apeldoorn. Each work in the series explores the beauty of texture, imperfection, and material. The handmade paper, with its rough edges, visible fibers and organic surface, becomes an integral part of the artwork itself. 

The series is inspired by the earthy landscapes and vivid contrasts I see in nature and my surroundings. Real sand collected from the ibeaches and other mixed-media materials are embedded in the layers of paint, connecting the works to themes of nature, memory, and transformation.

With Raw Earth Paper, Sander moves beyond traditional canvas, embracing a smaller, more intimate format that invites close observation. These works capture the raw essence of process and material, quiet, tactile, and deeply personal.
