Raw Earth Paper 254
Nature on Handmade Paper
Raw Earth Paper 254 (RA-P_254) is a delicate abstract painting created on handmade paper from the historic paper mill De Middelste Molen near Apeldoorn. Fascinated by raw and tactile materials, I was drawn to the organic surface and distinctive character of this paper. Each sheet carries its own rhythm, shaped by visible fibers, irregular edges, and subtle imperfections that blend naturally into the composition.
This intimate work (18 × 13.5 cm) takes inspiration from the rugged landscape of Mallorca, where warm, earthy tones meet the clarity of the sea. Layers of paint are interwoven with real sand gathered from the island’s beaches and other mixed media materials, forming a textured dialogue between matter, memory, and place.
It reflects an ongoing exploration beyond the traditional canvas, smaller, more personal works that embrace imperfection, texture, and presence. Raw in surface, quiet in mood, and honest in expression.
